Simpson School was named for George F. Simpson, a Louisville physician and a member of the city school board. The school name was changed to Henry Clay School because the board adopted a policy that schools could not be named for a living person. The school continued under the Clay name until circa 1975. The property was sold to the city of Louisville in 1981. The building was demolished and a fire station was built on the property.
