Schardein was a county school for white students in the Shively area. A new building was constructed for the school in 1912.  In 1922 the school closed.  Part of its district was annexed into the city of Louisville.  The remaining section of the district became part of the district for Mill Creek Elementary.  The building was sold in 1922 and the land was deeded back to the original owner or the owner's heirs in 1925.
