Dr. Clarence A. Rubado served as assistant superintendent in charge of elementary education in the Louisville city schools from 1929 to his death in 1955. Rubado Elementary opened the year after his death and was named in his honor. The Rubado school building became Gottschalk Junior High (later Iroquois Middle School) when Iroquois High opened in the Taylor Boulevard building formerly housing Gottschalk.
