The school previously housed Overhill Street School, Eastern Departmental School, and Eastern Junior High.  Following its closure, its pupils were sent to Breckinridge Elementary.  The building was razed in 1969.  A public housing four-plex opened on the site in 1983.  The school playground became Rubel Park.
