The Fifth Ward school was renamed for George W. Morris, a native of England, who became a Louisville grocer and a longtime member of the school board. For many years the Council of Jewish Women served lunch to Morris students for a penny per item. After its closing, the school was razed and the property became part of the Norton-Kosair Children's hospital complex. Its students were sent to the Omer Carmichael Elementary School.
