JCPS began to operate a special school at the Kentucky Children's Home when that home for orphans relocated to the Lyndon area in the 1920's. In 1961 the school was renamed in honor of local civic leader Joshua B. Everett. From that time to the 1980's, however, the home name or the Everett name were used interchangeably for the school in district records. The Children's Home also provided a Re-Ed class starting in 1969 for emotionally disturbed children from Jefferson, Oldham, and Bullitt counties. In 1984 the facility became the Louisville Day Treatment Center.
