The Progress and Buckeye schools were merged into Lyndon Consolidated School in 1938, built on four acres on the west side of Wood Road on the former Nellie G. Browne property. The new school took its name from its location in the Lyndon community in east Jefferson County. Lyndon Elementary was replaced by Lowe Elementary in 1974, which was named for Lyndon's longtime principal, John B. Lowe. The school building became the Lyndon Vocational Rehabilitation School in 1976.
