The former Alex R. Kennedy Elementary School was renovated and opened as Kennedy Metro Middle School, an alternative school, in 1996.  Students from Buechel Metropolitan were reassigned to Kennedy and Buechel became an alternative high school only. Kennedy Elementary School was called Taylorsville Road Elementary School during its construction phase.  In 2015 Kennedy Metro and Buechel Metropolitan merged into a new school named the Minor Daniels Academy at the Buechel location.  A new Alex R. Kennedy Elementary opened in the Kennedy school.
