Maple Grove School (also known as Breckinridge) and the original Alex R. Kennedy School were merged into the new Melbourne Heights School, which was located halfway between those former schools. Melbourne had four rooms. The school closed temporarily in 1937 to house flood refugees. Melbourne Heights Elementary closed in 1971, replaced by Klondike Lane Elementary School. The building was used as an annex office and as a second location for classes for Jefferson County Trainable School. In 1978 the trainable classes were consolidated with the new Tully school. The building continued as an administrative annex until 1980. In 1981 the property was sold to Meredith Dunn Learning Center.
