Archives Closed Schools A-C: Center Street African Methodist Church Colored School

Year Closed: 1873 circa

This was one of the first public schools in Louisville for black students.  It opened in rented quarters in the Center Street African Methodist Church.  Sallie Adams presided as principal.  As new school buildings for black students were constructed, the schools in rented quarters closed.
