The Prentice School for the Retarded's student body was moved to the former Clay Elementary in 1971 and the name was changed to the Henry Clay School to reflect the old school building.  The Clay school was closed when a new school for the mentally retarded, Churchill Park School, opened in 1975.  The Clay school building was sold to the city of Louisville and demolished and a fire station was built at the site in 1981.
