The school was created at Central Colored High School.  It offered courses in methods of teaching used in the elementary grades of the Louisville public schools, school management, psychology, and the history and philosophy of education.  In 1907 the normal school moved to rooms in the Booker T. Washington Colored School.  The school's operation was suspended temporarily (circa 1924) since it was producing more teachers than the city schools wanted.  It resumed in 1925 at the Paul Dunbar Colored School.  Standards were raised to limit the number of students accepted.  The school closed in 1935.
