The Louisville city schools began to offer a class for deaf and hearing impaired children in 1926.  Originally located at 114 West Gray Street, the class relocated to the Morris School building at Floyd and Chestnut streets in 1928.  Following the termination of this class, classes were offered for the deaf at Emerson and Longfellow Elementaries and Shawnee High.
