1st Graduating Class  1888

The school originally began at the Girls High School with a class in stenography in 1887.  Two years later a class in bookkeeping began at the Normal School.  The classes were merged into a Commercial Department at the Normal School in 1890.  The department's growth led to its division and two classes relocated to the Tenth Ward School in 1897.  The department was reunited in 1898 and organized as the Commercial School, located at the Gray Street school.  The course of study lasted two years leading to graduation until 1903.  The course was lengthened to three years.  When Louisville Girls High was enlarged in 1912, the Commercial High School was combined with it and a commercial department opened in Girls High.  Commercial High's male students were assigned to Male High, which opened a commercial department, too.
