This school presumably succeeded the Crescent Hill School located on Crescent Avenue.  Crescent Hill-Clifton School was renamed in honor of Edward Gottschalk in 1908.  Gottschalk served on the city school board for several years.  The school's name was changed again in 1910 to George Rogers Clark Elementary School.
