The Broadway building previously housed the Louisville Normal School and Eastern Junior High School.  In 1966 the Broadway building became the Elizabeth G. Breckinridge Elementary School at 1128 East Broadway.  Elizabeth Breckinridge was a longtime principal of the Louisville Normal School. Students from the Rubel Avenue and Nicholas Finzer Elementary Schools were assigned to Breckinridge when it opened.  In 1995 Breckinridge offered two school schedules to students, the traditional nine-month calendar and a year-round calendar.   Breckinridge Elementary merged with Benjamin Franklin Elementary to become Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary.  After a short time as temporary housing for programs located at DuValle Education Center during its renovation, the building became Breckinridge Metropolitan High School.
