Ahrens' property was purchased for the Female High School in 1863 from the Curd family.  The Louisville Vocational School (formerly the Pre-Vocational School) was renamed for Theodore Ahrens, who financed the construction of the building. A self-supporting night school for adults was operated there as well. A vocational center opened at Ahrens in 1976.
