Other schools later were called University schools.  This school was started by Professor Marcus Blakey Allmond, who came to Louisville in 1880 from the University of Virginia.  He was the first professor of ancient languages at Louisville Male High School.  He opened this private school in 1888 at 104 E. Jacob Street, where it remained for most of its history.  In 1900 it moved to 1047 South 2nd Street.  Two years later Professor Allmond discontinued this school and it was succeeded by W. H. Tharp's University School at the same address.  This was later the site of the Beechmont School.
