Official Name: Mill Creek Elementary School #54
Year Opened: 1876, prior to
The land for the first Mill Creek school was given by the Shively brothers in the early 19th century. When it began operation is unknown but the first record in school files documents its operation in 1876. An addition to the one-room school was constructed in 1912. The school moved to a new school in 1918. Additional land was purchased in 1922 and a new five-room brick building was built. The school absorbed the county portion of the old Schardein school district. Mill Creek moved again in 1942 to 4205 Dixie Highway. The previous school and property was sold to Coleman R. Miller in 1942. Mill Creek was later consolidated with the Maplewood school. It moved to a new building, its current home, at 3816 Dixie Highway in 1970. The Mill Creek Vocational School opened in its previous building in 1972.
