Elementary School Archives G-N: Jacob

Official Name: Jacob Elementary School

Year Opened: 1932

Jacob originally opened in a county subdivision known as Jacob's Addition. In its earlier days, it also bore the names Jacob's Addition Graded School or Community School. The land was originally owned by Charles D. Jacob, mayor of Louisville, and was close to Jacob's Park (later Iroquois Park). Jacob's Addition had its own school district until 1922 when the Louisville city schools annexed the school. An extensive addition was constructed in 1932 to its facility, then located on Wheeler Avenue, and the name was changed to Charles D. Jacob School. In 1991 the school moved to its present site on Wheatmore Drive. The previous facility on Wheeler housed school administrative offices until 2006 when it was sold. Jacob operated on a year-round schedule from 1999 to 2008.
