Official Name: Brown School
Year Opened: 1972
The Brown School is known for informal and original approaches to education. It was one of the first magnet schools. Brown educates students in kindergarten through twelfth grade in a less structured environment. The school originally opened in the Brown Education Center, which operated for a time in the former Brown Hotel at Fourth and Broadway, and is also named for local entrepreneur J. Graham Brown. The Brown School moved to the Ahrens school building in 1980. The school's official name was updated to the J. Graham Brown School in March 2017.
