Official Name: Kenwood Elementary School
Year Opened: 1955
The original Kenwood School opened in 1897 and was renamed Auburndale Elementary in 1924. Auburndale's district was divided due to overcrowding and a new Kenwood Elementary School opened in 1955. The school property formerly belonged to a Dr. Russ, a local dentist. Kenwood offered eight grades for its first two years. Its original address was Bruce Avenue. Kenwood's library media center was named Linda Hall Perkins Library Media Center in 1998 for a longtime librarian at Kenwood.
