Laukhuf Elementary opened in 1974 and was named for Louis H. C. and Emily Laukhuf. Emily Laukhuf was a teacher at Fern Creek and Jeffersontown high schools. Louis Laukhuf was a teacher and administrator in Jefferson County. The school was built to relieve overcrowding at Paxton Wilt and Blue Lick Elementaries in southern Jefferson County.
