Official Name: Medora Elementary School
Year Opened: 1880's
The first school in the Medora area (now part of Valley Station) was established sometime during the 1880's in a former blacksmith shop. The community was named for Medora Miller. The school later moved to a site near Orell where it shared quarters with a Masonic lodge. In 1916 the school was consolidated with Brier Creek School located near Blevins Gap and a new building was constructed on Pendleton Road. Medora High School also opened on the site in 1924 and operated until 1936. Medora High students then transferred to Valley High School. Medora suffered some damage in the Ohio River flood of 1937 and was remodeled. In 1948 its seventh and eighth grades were also transferred to Valley High. A new Medora Elementary was built at Deering Road and Dixie Highway in 1954 on a 25-acre tract. The Pendleton Road property was sold to the Jefferson County Playground and Recreation Board in 1955.
