DuValle Junior High School was named for noted educator Lucie N. DuValle, who was the first woman to serve as a principal in the Louisville city schools. DuValle Junior High opened in 1952 in the old building at Ninth and Chestnut streets previously occupied by Central High School. DuValle moved to the front portion of a new building on Bohne Avenue which also housed Cotter Elementary School in 1956. Cotter closed in 1975 and DuValle expanded into its section of the building. DuValle became a middle school in 1975. DuValle closed in 1986 and its students were sent to the reopened Williams Middle School. A night school, GED classes and other programs were opened in the renamed DuValle Education Center.
