Montgomery Street School was renamed Dolfinger School in 1928 for Emma Dolfinger, biologist, who was a native of Louisville.  She was head of the science department at Girls High and became a supervisor of science for the city schools. The building was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War.  After its closing, the building was sold to the Portland Avenue Church of Christ and is now the elementary school for Portland Christian Academy.
