Williams Middle School opened in the former Rockford Lane Elementary School in 1975 in Shively and was named for David "Pat" Williams, former principal of Rockford Lane.  Due to low enrollment, the school closed in 1981 and administrative offices occupied the building.  In 1986 DuValle Middle School closed and its students and teachers were assigned to Williams, which reopened.  Williams became overcrowded and some students attended classes in an annex at Western High School.  The district constructed a new school at Cane Run Road and Lees Lane, which became Farnsley Middle School.  Williams closed again and its students went to Farnsley.  The Waller Environmental School moved to the Williams building and its name was changed to Waller-Williams Environmental School.
