The Jeffersontown Special Education Center was renamed the Roberta B. Tully Special School in 1978 to educate trainable and severely handicapped students. The school was named for Roberta B. Tully, the first woman chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Education. In 1987 Tully Special School was closed and its students were sent to Churchill Park School, so that the building could become Tully Elementary School to relieve overcrowding in eastern Jefferson County.
