The Mary B. Talbert School, named for a prominent reformer and activist in anti-lynching and prison reform, closed as an elementary in 1972 and opened as an alternative high school in 1973.  The alternative high school relocated to the old Longfellow School in 1975 and the old Talbert building became an adult continuing education center in 1977.  The building was later sold to St. Stephen Baptist Church in the 1990's.
