Eastern Junior High School, previously located on Broadway, was moved to the former Atherton High School building on Morton Avenue in 1964 and renamed Woerner Junior High School in honor of Emma J. Woerner, the first principal of Atherton.  Woerner closed as a junior high, circa 1977, and became Woerner Metro Alternative School.  Jefferson County Traditional Middle School later moved to the former Woerner circa 1981.  The history folder (filed with the successor JCTMS) contains a photo of the Woerner library.
