A note in the history folder says a primary school was opened in upper Louisville near the Ohio River and "Ferguson's Saw Mill," which may have been the Upper Fulton Street School. Early school records refer to primary schools at the "saw mills" and indicate they may have been close to the Ohio River. They are listed as both above and below the "Saw Mills." These schools are also listed as being "at Milford," but no information as to a place named Milford has been found. At one time its address was given as 1306 Fulton Street. Upper Fulton Street School had four classrooms in 1912. This school may have been renamed in honor of inventor Robert Fulton in 1928.
