One note in the history folder says the school opened in 1887 for white students under the name Jacob School.  In 1917 it became a school for black students.  When the name may have changed is not noted.  The note says the school became a residence after it closed but was later sold again and razed for its lumber, which was used for a barn.  The black community of Taylortown has an A. M. E. (African Methodist Episcopal) church and a record from 1920 documents payment of $20 to an A.M. E. church to rent the facility for a school.   Another note gives Taylortown as an alternative name for the Goose Creek Colored School.
