A second location for classes for Jefferson County Trainable School opened in the former Melbourne Heights School building in 1971.  The school served educable mentally handicapped students.  The original school operated on Dixie Highway in the old Kerrick Elementary building.  The school was also called Melbourne Heights Trainable School during part of its history.  In 1978 the Melbourne Heights trainable classes were consolidated with the new Tully school.  The building continued as an administrative annex until 1980.  In 1981 the property was sold to Meredith Dunn Learning Center.
