Jefferson County Trainable School opened in the former Kerrick Elementary School building at Dixie Highway and Blanton Lane when Kerrick moved to Upper Hunters Trace in 1959.  The school served educable mentally handicapped students.  The school was also called Mill Creek Trainable School during part of its history.  The school closed and the property was sold to Exxon Oil Company in 1973.  A second Jefferson County Trainable School opened in the former Melbourne Heights Elementary School location in 1971.
