The school was previously named Gottschalk Junior High.  In 1976 Iroquois Junior High temporarily merged with Iroquois High School and was known as Building B.  When a high school addition was complete in 1979, Iroquois Junior High reopened as a separate school but became Iroquois Middle School.  Iroquois Middle merged with Southern Leadership Academy in 2008 to form the Frederick Law Olmsted Academy.  Iroquois Middle became Olmsted South.  Olmsted South educates girls and its other campus, Olmsted North, educates boys in single-sex classes.
