Last Address: 3819 Bardstown Road

The school originally opened as a public school in a district in Buechel but was not free. It became free after the adoption of the third Kentucky state constitution in 1850. A private school preceding this school existed from 1793. From the mid-nineteenth century until 1910, Hikes would be considered a county school. It became an independent district in 1910. The last building housing the school was built in 1927 and opened in 1928. The school returned to the county schools district in 1950. Hikes School closed in 1975. The building was used as an office annex until 1982, when it was leased by the private Eliahu Academy. In 1994 the building was sold and it was opened as Derby City Antique Mall in 1998.
