Jacob School opened in a two-room frame structure in 1898. It was succeeded by a seven room school known as Jacob's Addition Graded School or Community School. The land was originally owned by Charles D. Jacob, mayor of Louisville, and was close to Jacob's Park (later Iroquois Park). Jacob's Addition had its own school district until 1922 when the Louisville city schools annexed the school. Other schools named Jacob School later succeeded the Jacob's Addition school.
