The Ormsby Avenue Colored School relocated to Eighth and Kentucky Streets in 1897 so the school was renamed the Eighth Street Colored School.  The school was renamed again in 1910, becoming the Paul Dunbar School.  After the Dunbar School moved to the former Central High School building, this building became an annex for Dunbar and then reopened as Eighth Street Colored School.
