The 8th Street Colored School then at 8th and Kentucky streets was renamed the Mary B. Talbert School in 1924. Talbert was a prominent reformer and activist in anti-lynching and prison reform. In 1952 Talbert School relocated to the Parrish Hall building on the former campus of the Louisville Municipal College, an affiliate of the University of Louisville. Talbert closed as an elementary in 1972. It opened as an alternative high school in 1973. The alternative high school relocated to the old Longfellow School in 1975 and the old Talbert building became an adult continuing education center in 1977. The building was later sold to St. Stephen Baptist Church in the 1990's.
