In 1952 Western Colored School, located at 1526 Magazine Street, was renamed the William H. Perry Sr. Elementary School.  Perry was principal of Western Colored School for many years.  Perry Elementary relocated to a new building at 1606 Magazine Street in 1959, in the Russell neighborhood of Portland.  Perry closed in 1979.  Its building was reopened in 1980 to house Theodore Roosevelt School and the new school became Roosevelt-Perry Elementary School.
