Elementary School Archives A-F: Fairdale

Official Name: Fairdale Elementary School

Year Opened: 1913

A previous district for the Mount Holly School was split five ways in 1913 resulting in new schools: Pine Grove, South Park, Berry, Mitchell Hill, and Fairdale. Fairdale School, a one-room school building, was built on two acres purchased from Hugh Reed. In 1928 these districts were merged back into one for Fairdale School in a building at 10618 W. Manslick Road. A high school program was added to create an original Fairdale High School. That high school operated until 1951 when it was closed when Southern High School opened. (A new Fairdale High School opened in 1962.) Fairdale Elementary remained in the old building until 1973 when a new facility opened. The old building was then demolished. A new wing was added to the current building in 2000.
