Elementary School Archives A-F: Dunn

Official Name: Dunn Elementary School

Year Opened: 1972

Dunn Elementary was named for Ruth Dunn, a longtime teacher and supervisor in Jefferson County schools. In the construction phase, the school was referred to as Blakely Elementary School because it was built on part of Blakely Farm purchased from the family of the same name. Dunn's original address, according to its dedication program, was 4799 Brownsboro Road. Dunn was seriously damaged in the 1974 tornado and its student body completed the year in the newly constructed building soon to become Crosby Middle School. Dunn was renovated when the building was repaired for the tornado damage.
