Official Name: Bloom Elementary School
Year Opened: 1923
This school was previously Lucia Avenue School. In 1923 the school was named I. N. Bloom School for Dr. I. N. Bloom, a Louisville physician and chairman of the Louisville Board of Education. The school was renovated in 1969. During the latest remodeling of its Lucia Avenue facility from 2004 through 2005, Bloom temporarily relocated to the old Shelby Elementary school building at 930 Mary Street. Bloom reopened in its own school building in fall 2005. Bloom was also associated with the former Enterprise School. This small school became a branch for Bloom, educating children in kindergarten and first grade.
