Official Name: Chancey Elementary School
Year Opened: 2002
Chancey Elementary is named for Malcolm Chancey, Jr., a local business leader who established the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation. The school was constructed on land in eastern Jefferson County originally bought by the Board of Education in 1971 for a future high school. During planning and construction, the school was referred to as Murphy Lane School before the Chancey name was selected.
