Official Name: Audubon Traditional Elementary School
Year Opened: 1954
Audubon Elementary was built on the approximate site of the old Spring Garden School. It is named for famous naturalist and artist John James Audubon. Audubon was a county school prior to merger. Following merger, the school closed for a short time. It reopened in the 1975-76 school year to house students from Johnston Elementary. Audubon reopened under the name Jefferson County Traditional Elementary School in the fall of 1976. As two more traditional schools were to open in the fall of 1977, the school needed a more distinctive name, so the Audubon name was resumed under the title Audubon Traditional Elementary School. The school history folder includes a 1999 photograph in the library.
