 The school originally opened in the small town of Parkland.  In the early 1920's, the school's address was 34th and Southern Avenue.  In 1924 the street numbering apparently was changed from 34th to 36th.  Parkland had been a county school but was annexed by Louisville in 1922.  (check - in city directory 1897) The school was rededicated in 1969 following the building's remodeling and enlargement.  Parkland was renamed Maupin Elementary for Milburn T. Maupin, a longtime Louisville and Jefferson County schools administrator in 1985.
