Archives Closed Schools N-P: Primary School (Woodland Garden)

Last Address: Near Woodland Garden, end of Market Street

Year Opened: 1847 circa

Year Closed: 1852 circa

A primary school opened in the late 1840's near Woodland Garden.  Woodland Garden was a place of amusement in nineteenth century Louisville, which catered to German immigrant families.  It was located at the east end of Market Street.  Some references say the school was near Woodland Garden, while others say it was "above" it.  This schoolhouse presumably closed when several new schools were constructed and opened following the adoption of a new city charter in 1851.
