Archives Closed Schools N-P: Oakdale School

Other Name: Oakdale Vocational School, Ellen C. Semple Elementary School

Last Address: 4049 South Fifth Street (at Fairmont Street)

Year Opened: 1915

Year Closed: 1932

The Oakdale school was originally in an independent district in the county, apparently part of the Highland Park schools.   The community of Oakdale was annexed by the city of Louisville in 1921 and the Oakdale school became a city school.  The Oakdale school was superseded by the new Semple Elementary.  The building later became a neighborhood house, a war production school during World War II, and later a vocational school.  It was sold in 1960 to the Calvary Assembly of God church.
