Official Name: Waggener High School
Year Opened: 1954
1st Graduating Class: 1960
This school began in 1954 as Waggener Junior High School. It was named for Mayme Waggener, a longtime teacher and principal at Greathouse School in St. Matthews. Waggener was the first separate junior high school constructed in Jefferson County. It added the senior high grades by the late 1950's and held its first graduation in 1960. Waggener became a traditional school in 1994. The traditional designation was removed in 2011 and the school was renamed Mayme S. Waggener High School. In 2014 Myers Middle at Waggener High took up occupancy in part of the Waggener facility.
