Minor Daniels Academy opened in 2015 and is an alternative school for behavior modification. The school sought to return students to their original schools for graduation. The academy educates middle and high school students. The building formerly housed Buechel Metropolitan High and Bashford Manor Elementary School. Buechel and the former Kennedy Metro Middle School were merged into a new school. In its planning phase, it was called the Jefferson County Metropolitan School. Before the school opened, it was named in honor of longtime JCPS teacher and administrator Minor Daniels. He served as a teacher at Meyzeek Middle School and as an administrator in various positions such as Director of Community Organization and Neighborhood Operations, Director of Employee Relations, and Executive Director of Business Affairs. He assisted in
the establishment of Neighborhood Stations, which later became Neighborhood Places.
